What is OCR? When documents are scanned, the entire contents of each document is scanned to an image (often a TIFF). Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process where the text in scanned images is converted from an image to actual text characters. For example, an image of the world "hello", is converted to the letters "h-e-l-l-o". This makes the text searchable and portable. Can you OCR Handwriting? Not without specialized software. The process is similar to OCR, but it can read hand-printed characters. It's called ICR, or Intelligent Character Recognition. However, we have created our own software that provides us with a way to capture this information on each document. Call us to learn more.
